Changing the shape of Spatial Objects

Having drawn and defined a Spatial Object, you may want to change its shape and appearance. You can do this by moving, adding and deleting vertices.

The vertices of an object are visible whenever you select the object: they are displayed as small green squares where the lines of the objects meet.

To change the shape of a Spatial Object:

  1. Select an object using any of the methods described in Selecting Spatial Objects .
  2. Click on one of the object’s vertices to ‘snag’ it, move your cursor to another position and click again to release it.

The vertex moves to its new position.

  3. Repeat for other vertices until you are satisfied with the changes you have made to the object’s shape.

You can add or delete vertices from an object to change its shape. Deleting a vertex can instantly change the shape of an object, for example, deleting a vertex from a square turns it into a triangle. Adding a vertex gives you a new point from which to change the shape of an object.

To add or delete a vertex:

  1. Select an object using any of the methods described in Selecting Spatial Objects .
  2. To add a vertex, right-click on an existing vertex and select Add Vertex.

A new vertex is added to the object, in a clockwise position from the vertex you first clicked on.

    Or
    • To delete a vertex, right-click on an existing vertex and select Delete Vertex.

The vertex is deleted and the shape of the object is instantly updated with the vertices either side of the deleted vertex joined by a single line.
